The Skill that Keeps Children from Progressing in Reading

The reason they have trouble absorbing the reading skills is because they lack phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is the ability to notice, think about, and work with the individual sounds in spoken words.* Allowing the child to “wait and see” if they will eventually pick up reading skill will be to no avail unless they pick up this skill. In fact according to WRW there is a near 90 % chance that students will not attain the skills on their own later on. I feel teachers need to work hard to find out how to give a child what he or she needs.
